Gongali House

In 2002, when we aquired this land at the top of a small escarpment in Gongali, near Karatu, it had been under cultivation for many years. The three acre property was paritally bordered by munyaa and boasted stand of Eucalyptus trees near the eroded dirt track with no name that lead to the place. We planted indigenous trees and had water brought up by oxcart in the dry season. Slowly the seedlings we planted held and among them self-seeded thorn trees broke through the red soil. Today we enjoy a home in a small island of bush. It looks out toward the forests of Ngorongoro, the Crater Rim and Mount Loolmalasin. Birds and various small mammals such as African Hare, Dik Dik and mongooses share it with us.
