Gongali House

My name is Daatih, I am Tanzanian and the own this small, family run business. In 2002, when my mother aquired this land at the top of a small escarpment just outside of Karatu, it had been under cultivation for many years. The three acre property was paritally bordered by munyaa and boasted a stand of Eucalyptus trees near an eroded dirt track with no name. We planted indigenous trees and had water brought up by oxcart in the dry season. Slowly the seedlings we planted held and among them self-seeded thorn trees broke through the red soil. Today we enjoy a home in a small island of bush. The area in which we are situated is called Gongali. The house looks out toward the forests of Ngorongoro, the Crater Rim and Mount Loolmalasin. Many birds and various small mammals such as African Hare, Dik Dik and mongooses share it with us.
